Neighborhood Coffee & Donuts
With Guest JR Ball
5436 S. Afton Pkwy
Melrose Place
Baton Rouge, LA

Neighborhood Coffee & Donuts is a casual gathering of Melrose Place residents in the comfortable setting of a neighbor's home to discuss things relevant to our community.
This month, we're excited to have longtime journalist JR Ball as a special guest. JR Ball is the former Executive Editor of Baton Rouge Business Report and Co-Founder of a local news source on the rise: RedEye. Every RedEye article takes a laser pointer to the economic, infrastructural, and cultural patterns that shape Baton Rouge - and the opportunities to bend them for the better.
We'll be talking about neighborhoods like ours - those at the edge of new investment and historic disinvestment, the role civic isolationism plays in preventing neighborhoods/cities from becoming their best versions, and what small things regular citizens can do to make the place we call home a better one.
Thanks to Sam and Betty for hosting.

This month, we're delighted to have special guest Allyson DeButts. Allyson is a licensed occupational therapist who lives in Melrose and is helping her community through CAPABLE (Community Aging in Place Advancing Better Living for Elders). CAPABLE brings together occupational therapists, registered nurses, and handy workers to support residents aged 60 or older who want to remain in their home and live independently as they age. Engagement in the program is a 4 to 5 month process that’s driven by functional goals of the client.
We want our neighborhood’s elder population to thrive, and all are welcome to learn about this program’s implementation in our area. If you have a neighbor that may be eligible, please invite them.

This month, we'll have special guest Todd LeBlanc joining us. Todd is a veteran Realtor with a service-oriented mindset and deep knowledge of the Southern Louisiana real estate market. Having served on the Louisiana REALTORS® Board of Directors as well as several local REALTORS® Board of Directors, Todd looks forward to sharing his insights with us.
We’ll discuss the unavoidable truth: the long term value of your home depends to a large degree on its surroundings - hence the common refrain in real estate: “you don’t buy a house, you buy a neighborhood”. Todd will help us unpack this truth and discuss how the perception of place can drive its success or failure as a market.
